Police Seize ‘Baal’ Statue in Karachi After Viral Video
Karachi — Police in Karachi seized a controversial “Baal” statue from the Mehran Town area after a video of the structure went viral on social media and sparked concern among residents.
According to police officials, the statue triggered objections from locals who questioned its presence in the neighborhood. Soon after the video circulated online, several residents contacted authorities and demanded action.
Police Remove Statue After Complaints
Law enforcement officers visited the site following the complaints and removed the statue from the area. Officials later shifted the structure to a local police station for examination.
Police said the statue was made of foam, which made it easier to transport after its removal.
Authorities launched an inquiry to determine who created the statue and why it was placed in the area.
Sculptor Gives Statement to Investigators
During the investigation, police identified the sculptor as Imran, who later provided a clarification statement to authorities.
According to officials, the sculptor claimed he had been asked to create the statue by cleric Allama Shabbar Zaidi.
Police said the cleric informed investigators that the statue had been prepared to be burned during an event planned for Friday.
Authorities added that they will decide on further action after completing the inquiry.
Symbol Draws Attention in Regional Events
The “Baal” symbol has recently appeared in political demonstrations in parts of the region. In Iran, statues linked to the symbol were reportedly burned during events held on February 11.
During those demonstrations, participants chanted slogans such as “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.” Some groups portrayed the symbol as representing evil and what they described as Zionist influence.
Investigation Continues
Police officials in Karachi said the investigation into the statue remains ongoing. Authorities are reviewing statements and other details to determine whether any further legal action is required.
Meanwhile, the incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, where users continue to debate the purpose and symbolism of the statue.
