DG ISPR Links KP Terror Wave to Political-Criminal Nexus

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) has blamed a “political-criminal nexus” for fueling the recent surge in terrorism across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), warning that the alliance between certain political figures and criminal networks is undermining national security efforts.

    DG ISPR Highlights Security Challenges

Speaking during a media briefing in Rawalpindi, DG ISPR said that terrorist networks are being indirectly supported by individuals with political and criminal links, which has complicated counter-terrorism operations in the region.

“This nexus benefits from instability,” he said. “While our forces continue to dismantle militant hideouts, political interference and protection for criminal elements create obstacles in achieving lasting peace.”

He emphasized that law enforcement agencies are working around the clock to neutralize threats, adding that intelligence-based operations (IBOs) have intensified in DI Khan, Bannu, and Tank districts — areas witnessing increased militant activity.

ISPR Calls for Unified National Response

The military spokesperson stressed the need for a unified national stance against terrorism and political exploitation of security issues.
He said that national security must not be politicized, urging political leadership to support the armed forces’ efforts rather than enabling elements that threaten Pakistan’s internal stability.

“The Pakistan Army is fully committed to eradicating terrorism,” DG ISPR said. “But the fight requires honesty, unity, and responsibility from every segment of society.”

Background: Rising Violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

KP has witnessed a series of terrorist attacks in recent months targeting security forces, police personnel, and civilians. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and allied groups have been blamed for most of these assaults.
Security experts warn that local political power struggles and criminal groups involved in extortion and smuggling have complicated the counter-terrorism landscape.

According to officials, several high-level security meetings have been held to review the situation and coordinate civil-military actions to restore law and order in the province.

    Conclusion

DG ISPR’s remarks shed light on the complex nature of the terror threat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where political manipulation and criminal involvement have deepened instability. The statement underscores the army’s resolve to continue its operations while calling for collective political responsibility to safeguard national peace.
