Karachi Police Crack Down on E‑Challan Violators
Karachi – March 27, 2026: Karachi Traffic Police has announced a major crackdown on vehicles and motorcycles attempting to evade the e‑challan system by using fancy or non-approved number plates.
The operation will begin on March 30, 2026, across Karachi.
Strict Action from March 30
Authorities have directed all vehicle owners to replace fancy or altered number plates with officially approved ones before the deadline.
Otherwise, strict action will be taken without any leniency.
Citywide Joint Operation
Several law enforcement agencies will take part in the crackdown, including:
- Traffic police
- District police
- Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC)
- Excise police
- Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC)
Checkpoints will be set up across the city to intercept violators.
Why Authorities Are Acting
Officials say non-standard number plates pose serious security risks.
Criminals often use hidden or altered plates to avoid identification during illegal activities.
Therefore, authorities aim to strengthen law enforcement and improve public safety.
Penalties for Violators
Police will take strict action against violators, including:
- Heavy fines
- Vehicle or motorcycle impoundment
- Legal action on the spot
So, citizens must comply with regulations to avoid penalties.
Thousands Already Flagged
Since October 2025, authorities have flagged over 23,000 vehicles and motorcycles in the e‑challan system.
Most of these vehicles attempted to hide or modify number plates to avoid fines.
Officials’ Statements
The issue was reviewed in a meeting chaired by Javed Alam Odho, Inspector General of Sindh Police.
Meanwhile, Pir Muhammad Shah highlighted that many motorcyclists have been exploiting loopholes in the system.
He confirmed that a larger operation will continue after Eid al-Fitr.
Instructions for Citizens
Authorities have advised citizens to:
- Use only official number plates
- Remove fancy, covered, or altered plates
- Follow traffic rules strictly
What’s Next?
The crackdown will intensify after Eid, targeting repeat offenders.
Meanwhile, authorities aim to make the e‑challan system more effective, transparent, and secure.
