Govt Plans Subsidized Petrol for Bikes, Rickshaws
Islamabad – March 27, 2026: The government of Pakistan plans to give subsidized petrol to motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers through a mobile app.
This step aims to reduce the burden of rising fuel prices on low-income groups.
How the Subsidy Will Work
First, users will register on a mobile app. Then, the system will assign them a fixed fuel quota.
After that, users will generate digital vouchers. Petrol pump staff will scan these vouchers before giving fuel.
Quota and Verification
The system will link each user’s quota to:
- Vehicle registration number
- CNIC
Officials expect the monthly limit to be around 15 litres, although the final decision is still pending.
Who Is Behind the Plan
Several departments helped develop the system, including the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Now, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will give final approval.
Why This Step Matters
Recently, fuel prices increased sharply across Pakistan.
As a result, daily commuters—especially bike and rickshaw users—have faced serious financial pressure.
Therefore, the government introduced this plan to provide direct relief.
What Happens Next
The cabinet will review the proposal soon.
If approved, the government may later expand the scheme to include more vehicle types.
