OpenAI Delays ChatGPT’s ‘Adult Mode’ Launch Again

OpenAI has delayed the launch of ChatGPT’s planned “adult mode” feature once again, according to a company spokesperson. The feature is expected to allow verified adult users to access certain types of mature content within ChatGPT. However, the company says it will now prioritize improvements to the chatbot’s core capabilities.

Feature First Announced by Sam Altman

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman first revealed the concept in October. At the time, he said the company planned to introduce stronger age‑verification systems before allowing additional types of content for adults.

He noted that the idea followed OpenAI’s principle of “treating adult users like adults.”

Initially, the company expected to release the feature in December.

    Launch Already Delayed Once

However, the release was postponed earlier. Reports said Altman sent an internal memo declaring a “code red,” urging teams to focus on improving the core ChatGPT experience.

As a result, the rollout was moved from December to the first quarter of this year.

    Company Now Prioritizing Core Improvements

OpenAI has now pushed the feature back again.

A spokesperson said the company is delaying the launch to focus on higher‑priority work that benefits more users.

    The improvements include:

    • ChatGPT’s intelligence
    • Personality and interaction style
    • Proactive responses
    • Overall user experience

The company emphasized that refining these areas remains its top priority.

    Timeline Still Unclear

OpenAI says it still supports the idea of offering more freedom for verified adult users.

However, the company acknowledged that building the right experience will take more time.

For now, it remains unclear when the “adult mode” feature will finally launch in ChatGPT.

The delay highlights the company’s focus on safety, usability, and core AI development as competition in the artificial intelligence industry continues to grow.
