PPP-Led Sindh Govt Created Barriers for PTI Rally: Sohail Afridi

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Tuesday accused the PPP-led Sindh government of creating barriers to obstruct a planned PTI rally, calling the actions politically motivated and against democratic norms. He said the hurdles were placed to restrict political activity and limit public participation.

Speaking to the media, Afridi said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had fulfilled all legal requirements for holding the rally, yet authorities created unnecessary obstacles.

    Allegations Against Sindh Government

Sohail Afridi claimed that the Sindh administration deliberately used containers and road blockades to disrupt access to the rally venue. According to him, such measures aimed to discourage supporters from attending the event.

Moreover, he said the actions violated citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

    PTI’s Position on Political Freedom

The KP chief minister stressed that PTI believes in democratic struggle and peaceful political expression. He said political parties should compete through public support rather than administrative pressure.

In addition, Afridi urged the Sindh government to remove the barriers and allow the rally to proceed without interference.

    Context of Political Tensions

Political tensions between PTI and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have remained high in recent months, especially over public gatherings and protests. Both parties have traded accusations of using state resources to limit political activities.

Observers say such disputes reflect wider political polarization across the country.

    Call for Neutral Administration

Sohail Afridi called on provincial authorities and law enforcement agencies to remain neutral. He emphasized that maintaining law and order should not come at the cost of suppressing political expression.

Meanwhile, PTI leaders said they would continue to pursue legal and constitutional options to ensure the rally takes place.

    What Happens Next

PTI officials are expected to engage with local administration to resolve the issue. Any further developments will depend on negotiations between party representatives and Sindh authorities.

The Sindh government has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
