‘Govt Is Not Planning To Arrest Imran Khan,’ Says Khawaja Asif

Khawaja Asif, the defence minister and a key leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), has denied the rumors that the government is planning to arrest Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

In an interview with a private news outlet, Khawaja Asif addressed rumours that the federal government was planning to apprehend the PTI chairman and ex-prime minister Imran Khan. He said Khan’s actions are an attempt to put pressure on the country’s judicial system and other institutions.

Asif said Khan rose from obscurity to become prime minister and is now attacking the man who helped him rise to power.

The defence minister said that the law applies equally to the PTI and the government, but Imran Khan started complaining when he began to face legal measures against him. According to Asif, the PML-N is not responsible for the detention of any political figures.

Asif said that both Azam Swati and Shahbaz Gill were granted bail within three to four days, and that the government would not object to a similar ruling for Fawad Chaudhry. He continued, saying that PML-N has always taken the lawful route.

Asif responded to a query by saying that the PML-N did not initiate the foreign funding case and that its hearings had been postponed for seven years.
