Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has claimed that the government has chosen a “controversial person” in Punjab to influence the province’s upcoming election outcomes.
Despite the government’s need for a malleable opposition leader, the PTI leader issued a statement saying his party has no plans to return to the National Assembly. He went on to say that while his party supported “free and transparent elections,” the PDM will “leave no stone unturned” to prevent them from happening.
Mr. Qureshi said that the opposition in Punjab has suggested irrational candidates for the job of caretaker chief minister. He said that everything was proceeding per plan, and that “we are not ignorant to it.”
The PTI leader said that the ECP had violated the constitution by failing to announce poll dates when legislatures were dissolved. The PTI planned to appeal the ECP’s rulings.
