PTI Demands Fresh Karachi Local Body Elections

On Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party called for new local government (LG) elections in the city of Karachi.

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar told reporters in Islamabad that the results of the second round of LG elections, in which the PPP came out on top, should be declared null and invalid.

After the recent LG elections in Sindh’s Karachi and Hyderabad divisions, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar rejected the results and called for the resignation of members of the electoral board due to allegations of rigging.

The PTI leader said that election day rigging had begun early, when footage of poll workers stamping vote papers appeared online. He further said that ballots were delivered late to several voting places.

His words, “A dangerous game was played in Karachi,” followed his claim that the PDM had repeatedly postponed the LG elections in order to steal the mandate.

During the second round of local government elections in Sindh, the Pakistan People’s Party did very well in major cities like Karachi and Hyderabad.

The ECP’s party position report for the Karachi Division following the LG elections stated that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had won the most seats (93).
