Jam Awais, a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and his co-defendants in the Nazim Jokhio murder case were acquitted on Thursday by a sessions court in Karachi.
In November of last year, local journalist Jokhio was tortured to death at MPA Jam Awais’s farmhouse in a Malir locality. Among those accused of the crime are MPA Jam Awais and his servants and guards Haider Ali, Meer Ali, Muhammad Mairaj, Mohammad Saleem Salar, Mohammad Doda Khan, Ahmed Khan Shoro, and Mohammad Soomar.
Following an out-of-court settlement, PPP MPA Jam Awais and others were cleared of any involvement in the death of a local journalist.
Accused PPP MPA Jam Awais and others were pardoned by Nazim Jokhio’s family in an affidavit presented in court in September.
As part of the affidavit’s specifics, the phrase “We have pardoned the guilty in the name of Allah” became public knowledge. The case against the six suspects in the murder will be dropped.
There have been a total of three petitions filed with the court by defence attorneys and Nazim Jokhio’s family members.
