Arrest Warrants Issued By ECP For Imran Khan And Other PTI Leaders

On Tuesday, bailable arrest warrants were issued for Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and other PTI officials for their roles in a contempt case brought before the ECP.

On January 3, the ECP decided to hold off on delivering a judgment until further consideration.

The ECP panel has ruled in a case in which the former prime minister Imran Khan, along with PTI officials Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar, had requested exemption from appearing in court.

The ECP has ordered top PTI officials to post bail with Rs50,000 security bonds by January 17.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had filed a contempt case against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his party leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday of last week, and the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) permitted the matter to proceed.

The ECP petition was heard by a three-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial, Justice Ayesha A. Malik, and Justice Athar Minallah.
