Family sources revealed on Friday that Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had successful throat surgery in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to the hospital authorities, she had a three-hour long operation in which two of her neck glands were removed.
Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam, flew out of London for Switzerland on January 4.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the minister of information, revealed that the PML-N vice president flew to Geneva from London to have her procedure done.
She would be back in Pakistan in the third week of January to start her new role as Chief Organizer, the minister said.
Nawaz Sharif is likely to pay a visit to his heart surgeon in Geneva, according to reports. This is the same doctor who often paid a visit to the elder Sharif at his Avenfield Apartment in London.
According to the sources, the PML-N leader and his daughter would go to many cities, see attractions, and attend meetings.
Along with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be in Geneva on January 9 to co-host the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan.
The goal of this meeting is to bring together aid organisations from across the world to help the people of Pakistan who have been impacted by the recent flooding.
According to sources, Nawaz would also meet with PM Shehbaz. However, they did not provide any other specifics regarding the meeting.
The meeting is significant because of the country’s ongoing political unrest, with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan asking that the coalition leadership resign and elections be held.
