LHC Stops ECP From Removing Imran Khan As PTI Chairman

On Thursday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) stopped the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from dismissing Imran Khan from his position as chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) due to his disqualification in the Toshakhana case.

This comes after the PTI chairman challenged the ECP’s actions in the Toshakhana matter before the LHC yesterday.

After hearing Imran’s argument, LHC judge Justice Jawad Hassan ruled that the commission could not remove the ex-prime minister from his position as chairman.

In his plea, the PTI chairman claimed that the ECP was acting “illegally” in issuing him the notice and seeking to oust him as the party’s chairman.

In his petition to the court, Imran Khan requested a stay of the ECP notice and an injunction barring the electoral watchdog from taking any further action until the outcome of the case.

Toshakhana reference led to the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in October by the ECP.
