Islamabad municipal elections were scheduled for Tuesday, but the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) called a postponement.

The PML-N asked the IHC to postpone local government elections in the nation’s capital on the grounds that there should be more union councils there.

The judgement was given earlier today by a five-person tribunal led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja, according to reports.

Advocates Babar Awan and Ali Nawaz Awan for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Mian Aslam of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and Advocate General Jahangir Jadoon and former Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf representing the federal government all made court appearances.

According to former Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf, the Islamabad government suggested adding more UCs to accommodate the growing population in the nation’s capital.

The ECP listened to all the parties involved and decided to delay the municipal elections in Islamabad.
