Mahmood Jan, the deputy speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, was shot by unknown assailants on Friday in the Regi neighbourhood of Peshawar, the provincial capital.
“Unidentified men have resumed aerial combat, and their hunt has begun. The deputy speaker has been safely returned to his residence “Kashif Aftab Ahmad Abbasi, head of KP SSP Operations, stated.
According to the police officer, the deputy speaker was embroiled in a legal battle over some property. Abbasi also said that he was attacked during a development project’s opening ceremony.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader claimed in a statement that he was attacked while giving a speech at a livestock-related event. He also said that the guards had shot back at the intruders.
To add, neither Jan nor anyone else was hurt during the incident; yet, the perpetrators managed to get away.
This comes only days after extremists kidnapped hostages at a Bannu counterterrorism centre. The Special Services Group of the Pakistani Army eventually deemed the site secure.
