In light of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s de-notification by the governor the day before, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) dropped its no-confidence resolution against him on Friday.
According to MPA Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Elahi’s no-confidence motion was dropped when he was de-notified by the Punjab governor.
He said that the motions of no confidence against Sibtain Khan, the speaker of the Punjab Assembly, and his deputy, the deputy speaker, had not been withdrawn.
On Friday, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi filed a petition with the Lahore High Court (LHC) against Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman for denotifying him as the chief minister of Punjab.
Elahi, through his attorney, filed a petition claiming that the governor of Punjab had violated the constitution by calling for a vote of confidence in the assembly while it was still in session.
The petition argued that the governor lacked the power to call a special session of the assembly while the existing session was already in process.
It said that a resolution of no-confidence had already been filed against the chief minister in the Punjab Assembly and that Governor Balighur-Rehman lacked the jurisdiction to de-notify the chief minister via a “unconstitutional” decision.
Pervaiz Elahi petitioned the high court to declare the governor’s order invalid.
