Islamabad Suicide Attack Claims Life Of Police Officer, Injures Others


Deputy Inspector General of Operations Sohail Zafar Chattha informed the media that at least one police officer was killed and many others were wounded in a suicide attack on Friday in the I-10 block of the Federal Capital.

Following the blast, police have sealed off the area.

DIG Chattha, speaking to reporters at the scene of the explosion, said that the suicide bomber detonated himself after members of the Eagle Squad had stopped a suspected cab for inspection.

According to the DIG, the assailant returned in his vehicle before he blew himself up. He further said that a man and a woman were riding in the cab at the time of the explosion.

DIG Chattha said, “With bravery and foresight, police forces prevented a terrible calamity from striking Islamabad.” He also said that four police officers had been hurt in the attack.

While this was going on, Dr. Khalid Masood, Director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), said that they had received 10 wounded patients. He also said that two other corpses had been brought to the hospital in addition to the officer who had been killed.

The martyred police officer was identified as Head Constable Adeel Hussain.
