On Tuesday, in an asset beyond means case, a Sukkur accountability court ordered the provincial home secretary to remove Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The court also authorised him to go overseas for a month to seek treatment for his medical condition.
When it was discovered that Shah owned assets above his reported income, the restriction on his travel was issued in 2019.
Shah was mentioned in a reference filed against 18 people. On top of being accused of misappropriating Rs1.23 billion themselves, Shah’s spouses, daughters, sons, and close associates were also included in the reference.
Since then, he has been unable to leave the nation by air, since the supreme court ruled that his name should remain on the Exit Control List.
Former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial had ordered the National Accountability Bureau to keep investigating Shah but not to put him in prison indefinitely.
