Transgender Individuals Will Be Included In The Benazir Kafalat Program

The Benazir Kafalat Programme (BKP) of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will now include transgender individuals, as per a recent federal government decision.

BISP Chairman Shazia Marri made the announcement in a video address on Saturday, saying that transgender people will be eligible to receive aid under the Benazir Kafalat Programme (BKP).

Shazia Marri referred to the passage of the transgender policy as a “landmark success,” stating that the transgender community is an integral part of society and that it is the government’s duty to provide accommodations for them.

In order to participate in the Kafalat Programme, the Chairman of the BISP advised locals to apply for a CNIC from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The locals, she said, go to the Tehsil offices to register once they’ve updated their CNICs. She further said, “After successfully registering, the applicant would be paid Rs7,000 every quarter.”

On December 1st, during its 56th Board of Directors meeting, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) established a policy to include transgender people in its Benazir Kafalat Programme as beneficiaries.

Members of the board encouraged NADRA to make it easier for trans people to update their CNICs at the meeting.

Shaiza Marri, who spoke at the event, asked the Board of Directors to utilise their best endeavours and influence to mobilise this oppressed population so that the greatest number of transgender people possible might reap the benefits of this policy.
