On Friday, it was announced that Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid’s request for early retirement had been accepted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
Lt. Gen. Hameed submitted his application a few days ago, and GHQ has since moved it on to the Prime Minister’s Office for final clearance via the Defense Ministry.
During the PTI government, Lt. Gen. Hamid was both the Director General of the ISI and the Corps Commander in Peshawar. After that, he became the commander of the Bahawalpur corps.
Hamid’s announcement followed a similar one made by Lt. General Azhar Abbas, the Chief of General Staff (CGS).
The two senior top generals were among six nominees for the position of chief of army staff to replace General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who retired on November 29, 2022. On the other hand, Prime Minister Sharif chose General Asim Munir.
