LHC Issues School Closure Order Due to Smog in Punjab

On Friday, with haze threatening Punjab, particularly Lahore, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the closure of public and private schools three times every week.

To solve the pollution problem, the LHC issued the directives while considering the petitions submitted to it. The court ruled that the provincial administration of Punjab must reach out to the federal government for assistance in dealing with the pollution problem.

Legislation to reduce pollution emissions from industries has been requested from the provincial government. In this case, the court should be given the copy of the proposed law as soon as possible.

Further, the government of Punjab has been requested to seize polluting automobiles.

According to the LHC’s orders to the provincial administration, polluting vehicles should be seized and auctioned off after a single warning.

The LHC suggested at the previous hearing that the WFH policy of only working 2 days per week in the office will be imposed.
