Technical Grant for General Elections Approved by ECC

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been granted a technical grant by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.

The ECC, led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, has authorised a technical grant for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The electoral watchdog requested Rs47.42 billion from the government to fund election preparations for the next year.

According to the brief, the ECP asked for the upfront approval and two-part release of the rationalised amount of Rs47.42bn; Rs31.42bn in the current fiscal year and another Rs16bn in the next fiscal year (2023-24).

According to the sources, the ECC did not authorise a large supplemental grant to the electoral body, but they did approve a partial sum.

Meanwhile, the committee voted to fund a media campaign based on the Ministry of Information’s report. K-proposed Electric’s rate was also summarised for committee review (KE).

Earlier on November 15, the coordination committee delayed approval of a Rs47 billion grant for general elections to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
