The country’s educational board chairmen have decided to use a uniform 10-point grading scale for students in grades inter (or “grade XII”) and matric (or “grade X”).

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) in Lahore. Universities and Boards Secretary Mureed Rahimo presided over the meeting.

The new proposed grading system would raise the minimum passing score from 33 to 40, with the letter “F” being replaced by the letter “U” for “unsatisfactory” in the student’s examination comments.

The new grades are “A++” or “Exceptional” for students securing 95-100% marks; “A+” or “Outstanding” for 90-95% marks; “A” or “Remarkable” for 85-90% marks; “B++” or “Excellent” for 80-85% marks; “B+” or “Very Good” for 75-80% marks; “B” or “Good” for 70-75% marks; “C” or “Fair” for 60-70% marks; “D” or “Satisfactory” for 50-60% marks; “E” or “Sufficient” for 40-50% marks.

After the new grading system has been submitted to and approved by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), it will be implemented nationally.
